Our policies

The station will be music-led and feature music from a wide variety of genres. Live daytime programmes will typically comprise of 80% music and 20% speech. The speech element may include news, weather, traffic reports, community news, interesting stories, and other general information that may be of interest. Also comments and views via phone, text, letters or email from listeners on a variety of subject’s.

The programming should in the main appeal to, and suitable for, a family audience. Local and community news is an important element and may include coverage of small stories of significance to the community that may not receive coverage elsewhere, as well as other relevant issues such as local planning matters.

Daytime music will be mainly from the 50s/60s/70s/and 80s however music requests from other decades will be played, this will provide a variation of music to appeal to different age groups. Specialist music shows in the evenings may include rock and roll country, rock, jazz, big band, classical etc. The service will normally be live for at least eight hours per day, pre recordings and repeats of previously-broadcast programmes may be used at other times.

The aim is to provide an underserved community a service that will cover small but important local issues that are not covered on other broadcast media. With a local/community news service, information about local groups, and general awareness-raising of local issues. Local council and other relevant representatives are welcome to talk on local issues. The station will encourage views and comments, from listeners principally by phone, emails, letters etc. Community information sharing is encouraged. The operation of an “open door" policy will be applied to encourage the development of programme ideas from individual members of the community, or community groups

Local schools can produce appropriate material to be broadcast.

Everyone involved in broadcasting will undergo some training. Regular volunteers will be trained in the use of studio equipment. Interviewing techniques and news reading/collating if required. When trained they will in turn be encouraged to train other interested people.

Where possible we will have a presence at local events, supporting the on line and on air service we give to supporting community events. Local fund raising events will be promoted on air throughout the year to help raise the profile of the station and the charities in the local area.

The station will encourage partnerships with local charities to share resources towards mutual promotion and success.

The station will provide opportunities for members of the community to be involved within the operation, promotion and management of the service. Involvement to be encouraged through on-air promotions and the continued existence of the listening panel. Community feedback will be encouraged by on air announcements, the station website and forum. The output can be adapted in response to this feedback. The listening panel will allow representatives of the community to provide feedback on the station's performance. It may suggest improvements or changes in relation to station output and other station activities. The panel will consist of up to seven people preferably living within the station's licenced broadcast area. These may include representatives from volunteers, local businesses and youth work etc.
